Art Movement Surrealism

What do you know about surrealism?
I know that surrealism is something that isn't real, 'Surreal' meaning this is abstract, something you can't touch. Something to do with fantasy

This image denotes a woman in the floor with her hands looking as if they were tree roots, the women looks upset. This could denote that the woman feels as if the world is eating her alive and changing her. This image could be trying to represent that the world is changing people to object they don't want to be.

Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s and is best known for its visual artworks and writings. It was founded by the French poet Andre Breton in his 'The Surreal Manifesto' (1924)

Surrealism means 'above realism', the movement aimed to find truth in the world through the subconscious mind and dreams

It stemmed from the Dadaism movement, the word ' Dada' means nothing.

Giorgio de Chirico - This Italian artist was the first of the Surrealist painters.

Salvador Dali - Considered as one of the best surreal painters.

Max Ernist - German painter.

Man Ray - A versatile artist.

Andre Kertsz - Hungarian photographer.

Erik Johansson - Swedish photographer.
