Task One

                 Christopher Rivera

Image result for Chris Rivera
This photograph was taken by the photographer Christopher Rivera, this surreal photograph is based on the work of fantasy; wether it be whimsical or dark. This photograph denotes a man without a head with his neck releasing black smoke while being surrounded by the black smoke. This connotes that the man feels he is loosing his mind as the photographer likes to express emotions in his photography and especially being dark emotions, this could mean that the man is not only loosing his mind but having dark thoughts maybe with experiences he has been through in life. This could also connote that the man isn't mentally well and cannot keep control of himself, letting out all his aggression and depression in one. However, this photograph connotes a lot of emotion the mans body language seems as if he is angry, the photographer has used black smoke as this colour connotes aggression or being upset and black is not a bright expressive colour and not oftenly used for expressing happiness or joyful emotions. I have chosen to analyse this photograph because when I see the emotions and meaning behind the piece it makes me feel that the photographer feels he needs to express his darker side and that not everyone is necessarily happy with what they have in life and we should be thankful for what we have in life and not what we haven't.
The last thing I would like to talk about in this photograph is contrast, the model of this photograph is wearing a red hoodie which connotes that he is hiding in bright colours even though the aim of this was to create a dark depressing photograph.

Salvador Dali

Image result for Salvador Dalí photography meanings

This photograph was taken by an artist called Salvador Dali, this image connotes Dali in a room with a chair in the air along with cats, clocks and paintings. This photograph denotes that life can be a little crazy sometimes even if we are living happily and not everyone lives a normal life. The way Dali expresses this photograph is labeled as 'jumpology' and he believed if he caught a photograph while people are in the air he could capture their true personalities. This photograph was taken in 1948 and known as one of the most famous surreal images taken as Dali was one of the most famous people in the 40s. This image connotes a room with emotions from peace to aggression, the chair looks peaceful and not like it has been thrown aggressively however there are cats in the air which denotes the atmosphere is bit crazy. There is a lot going off in this photograph to all go in at once, the photographer has created this peace for personal reasons maybe to express how he feels about his life and everything he has been through. maybe he has had a previous experience with a chair being thrown or water being thrown at him and wants to capture them into one photograph and create a new meaning.
